This week I’m posting some of my old favorite romantic suspense reads. Well, some are old, some not so old. I’m going to list them with the oldest (and favorite) first. Make sure to read to the bottom so you don’t miss out on really great books. These books aren’t new, but they’re books I still think about and books I really loved reading. Some I’ve even read multiple times.
One of my all-time favorites! I believe this book was first published in 1990. At least, the first time I read it was in the early 90’s. And by first time, I mean the first of many. I buy every new edition and I’ve read it many times. The cover below is the most recent edition. If you’re looking for really great, classic romantic suspense, I highly recommend this book.
Emma McAvoy may have grown up in the limelight, but some secrets are hidden in a darkness no light can reach. Now on the verge of a successful career, and having fallen in love with the man of her dreams, Emma is looking to the future. Yet it’s the past that is about to catch up with her.
For Emma, her childhood had been almost like a rags-to-riches fairy tale—until the tragic night that changed her family forever. But what Emma thinks she knows about that terrible night and the man she’s about to marry is only half the truth. The other half is locked away in the last place she’d ever think to look: her own memories. It’s a mystery a handsome and relentlessly driven homicide detective needs to solve in a case that’s haunted him for years—and a secret someone will kill to keep.
Another one of my all-time favorites. Blue-Eyed Devil is second in a series. So, if you’re planning to read it, you should start with the first in the series, Sugar Daddy. The entire series is really good. I read it years ago, but Blue-Eyed Devil is my favorite. I tend to be drawn to abuse stories. I like reading about women rising from the ashes and regaining their strength after being stuck with abusive men. Strong characters don’t always start out that way and this book is a perfect example of that. On a side note, I don’t know who picked this new cover but don’t be fooled, it doesn’t represent the darkness inside. Sure, the book isn’t that scary, but it’s much deeper and darker then dancing through fields of daisies and any abuse victim would agree with me.
MEET THE BLUE-EYED DEVIL – His name is Hardy Cates. He’s a self-made millionaire who comes from the wrong side of the tracks. He’s made enemies in the rough-and-tumble ride to the top of Houston’s oil industry. He’s got hot blood in his veins. And vengeance on his mind.
MEET THE HEIRESS – She’s Haven Travis. Despite her family’s money, she refuses to set out on the path they’ve chosen for her. But when Haven marries a man her family disapproves of, her life is set on a new and dangerous course. Two years later, Haven comes home, determined to guard her heart. And Hardy Cates, a family enemy, is the last person she needs darkening her door or setting her soul on fire.
WATCH THE SPARKS FLY….Filled with Lisa Kleypas’s trademark sensuality, filled with characters you love to hate and men you love to love, Blue-Eyed Devil will hold you captive in its storytelling power as the destiny of two people unfolds with every magical word
I love Maya Banks’ KGI Series. Have you read it? The entire series is really great…at least as much as I’ve read. I’ve behind now, but I’ve read the first five of ten books in the series so far. If you’re looking to binge on good romantic suspense, this series is a good place to start.
Book One: The Darkest Hour
It’s been one year since ex-Navy SEAL Ethan Kelly last saw his wife Rachel alive. Overwhelmed by grief and guilt over his failures as a husband, Ethan shuts himself off from everything and everyone.
His brothers have tried to bring Ethan into the KGI fold, tried to break through the barriers he’s built around himself, but Ethan refuses to respond… until he receives anonymous information claiming Rachel is alive.
To save her, Ethan will have to dodge bullets, cross a jungle, and risk falling captive to a deadly drug cartel that threatens his own demise. And even if he succeeds, he’ll have to force Rachel to recover memories she can’t and doesn’t want to relive—the minute by minute terror of her darkest hour—for their love, and their lives, may depend on it.
I’m currently obsessed with this series. I’m reading Protected now and I’m totally hooked. Protected is book three of four. I also really loved book one and two. If you’re looking for current romantic suspense, this series is a great option. They’re the perfect kind of romantic suspense too because the romance plots are so well done.
Book One: Repressed
RITA Award winner, Romantic Suspense.
Hidden Falls is exactly as Samantha Parker left it—small, insular, and prone to gossip. Eighteen years have passed since she witnessed her brother’s murder, but she’s still the talk of the town. Until a handsome child psychologist with haunting memories of his own arrives.
Dr. Ethan McClane isn’t exactly a newcomer. If it weren’t for his latest case, he’d never set foot back in Hidden Falls. Thankfully, no one seems to recognize him as the troubled teen from years past. Not even Sam, the delightfully sharp and sexy high school chemistry teacher he can’t stop thinking about.
When Sam and Ethan work together to help one of her students, sparks ignite. But Sam’s hazy memories of a long-ago night concern Ethan, and unlocking the repressed images reveals a dark connection between them. As the horrors of the past finally come to light, their relationship isn’t the only thing in danger. A killer will strike again to keep an ugly secret hidden. This time no one will be safe.
